Phillips History Walk!

Saturday, October 8th at 1pm there will be a guided tour of historic downtown Phillips, as part of the Phillips Rail Fair. The Sandy River Land Trust and High Peaks Alliance are sponsoring this walk which features special guest speakers who will talk about the unique rich history of the town of Phillips. Walkers are encouraged to explore the fair afterward and even catch a ride on the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad, operating from 11am – 3pm.

Nestled in the Sandy River Valley, in the high peaks of the western Maine Mountains, the town of Phillips has played an important role in the history of Western Maine. From fertile farming community to bustling railroad town, Phillips has seen it all. Now you can too, thanks to our guides: Don Whittemore, Heddi Langdon, and Noah Mcadams. If you have stories about the downtown area we would love to hear them!

The walk will be a short distance on sidewalks and paved streets. We will start at the Old Gym on Depot Street, site of the Phillips Rail Fair at 1pm. The tour will then pass down Pleasant and Main Streets by Fly Rod Crosby’s House, the Beal Block and Community House, to the Paul G Whittemore Building, and finally returning to the Old Gym.  The Phillips Historical Society will be open before and after the walk for anyone who wants to view their extensive collection.

Come Join us on Saturday for a walk through historic Phillips!
