Wow, the work that is going on up in the Barnjum area is fantastic. Great progress is being made on the road into Barnjum. All the way to the bridge at Barnjum. Congrats to the workers as this road needs the work. Spring is coming and access will be much better. Thanks to all. Barnjum Resident.

Ditches are being put in and culverts are fixed in the first mile. Higher clearance vehicles only. Turned around at the Barnjum Population sign.

Being a Resident of Barnjum Maine I can tell you there is no better area to be in. Traveling this road is to say the least rough. Low clearance vehicles do not stand a chance as I have rescued 3 Subarus. The first 3 miles are really something to be desired. Once past the Barnjum bridge it is better. If this is to be used for its beauty and hiking etc. we need access. Resident

Drove into Mile Marker 7 with a full-size pickup. First two miles of the road are the roughest with washouts and exposed culverts. Wouldn’t recommend for a lower clearance vehicle.

September 10 — drove in to mile 7 where the “South Side Trail” up Mount Abraham begins with a Subaru. Slow going and you need to pick your way through, but never bottomed out. The best conditions of the road (though there are few) are further out.

The road is only good for high-clearance vehicles. The first two miles are rocky with culverts exposed in places. I made it to Mile Marker 4 with my Rav4 by going slow. Second time I had to turn around because of time restraints, not the conditions.

This road provides access to the Keystones and Mt Abraham conservation lands.
