This funding will significantly enhance our efforts to maintain and improve the trail, which celebrates the legacy of Cornelia “Fly Rod” Crosby, Maine’s first registered guide.
Building a Community of Trail Stewards
The Alliance is excited to announce that it has been awarded a $7,500 grant from the Sugarloaf Region Charitable Trust to establish a Recreational Ranger Corps for the Fly Rod Crosby Trail and greater area.
The Fly Rod Crosby trail is a multi-modal recreational path that supports hiking, biking, ATV riding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, canoeing, and kayaking. It traverses through diverse landscapes, including existing motorized trails, woods roads, and streets, with sections offering traditional Maine hiking experiences featuring rocks, roots, and incredible views.
The trail includes a spur to Saddleback Mountain and terminates at the Cascade Stream Gorge Trail in Rangeley, connecting multiple communities and preserving the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
The grant will support:
- Providing volunteer stewardship capacity for staff
- Purchasing tools and equipment for volunteers
- Hosting volunteer trainings
- Hosting community forums
- Improving trail signage and infrastructure
The Alliance extends its heartfelt thanks to the Sugarloaf Region Charitable Trust for their generous support. This grant will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Fly Rod Crosby Trail remains accessible and enjoyable for generations of outdoor enthusiasts.
Join the Rec Rangers!
The High Peaks Alliance invites community members to join the Recreational Ranger Corps. This is a fantastic opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to actively participate in preserving and enhancing the Fly Rod Crosby Trail AND other regional trails. Volunteers will engage in basic trail maintenance and share the trail’s rich history with visitors.
Additionally, individuals and groups are encouraged to “Adopt a Section” of the Fly Rod Crosby Trail, committing to its upkeep and preservation. For more information about volunteering or adopting a section of the trail, please contact Lead Rec Ranger, Matt Kusper via the form.
