Events and Opportunities Ahead
High Peaks Alliance Executive Director Brent West joined WSKI live this morning to update listeners on our work preserving access and wild character across Maine’s High Peaks.
Brent described HPA’s dual focus on conservation and recreation, from maintaining campsites at Bigelow and trails at Tumbledown and across the region, to preserving gems like Shiloh Pond for fly fishing.
He spotlighted upcoming events, including the March 27 Après Social (4-6 p.m.) at Sugarloaf’s Bill & Joan Alfond Competition Center, building on last year’s turnout of over 100 for food, drinks, and project updates, and the March 11 Business After Hours with the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce for regional networking (venue TBD).

HPA is now hiring paid seasonal Recreation Rangers for 2026 trail crews on state lands and partner properties, alongside volunteer rangers to tackle blowdowns and overgrowth; email cover letters and resumes to [email protected].
Brent also announced progress on backcountry glades along the old T-bar line at Bald Mountain in Oquossoc—offering free uphill travel to the fire tower and tree skiing, in partnership with Granite Backcountry Alliance, with summer volunteer days ahead.
