Walrath Woods Invites You
Located in Strong, Walrath Woods offers free public access to 120 acres of conserved land. The Sherry Walrath Memorial Trail winds through red pines and ferns along the Sandy River—an easy walk with room to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.
“With signs in place, brochures stocked, and benches ready, we’re excited to welcome visitors to Walrath Woods,” said Brent West, Executive Director of High Peaks Alliance. “Come for a walk, spend some time by the river, and make this a place you return to.”
Thank you to York Signs for the beautiful signs and quick turnaround that helped us get them in place for visitors.
A trail with a story
Walrath Woods honors Doug and Sherry Walrath’s four decades of caring for this land, carrying their legacy forward through public access.
As Doug Walrath shared, “I think that wherever we go through life, we leave a trail. And I would like to leave an open trail.”
Today, that trail welcomes you.
Pick up a brochure at a trailhead kiosk, then return it after your visit for others to use. Along the way, pause at an Aldo Leopold bench to take in your surroundings.
Find Walrath Woods on Google Maps, Maine by Foot, and Maine Trail Finder, or visit our Walrath Woods project page for trail information and a downloadable brochure.
