If you are looking for something new this winter, make the trip to little-known Center Hill in Weld. I took my family cross-country skiing recently, and it did not disappoint!
First, you should know that the winter trails are different from the summer trails. The winter trails are located at what is called “Mt. Blue State Park Headquarters” on Google maps. If you make a sharp turn on Center Hill Road and end up on a dirt road, you have gone too far. Turn around and go back to the big white buildings with a tan yurt in the yard.
I brought my eight and ten-year-old with me on this adventure. First, we tried out the groomed ski trails. There are ski grooves groomed into the snow, making the trail fast and fun! While there are other areas for walking and snowshoeing, these are not allowed on the groomed trails to keep the ski tracks undisturbed. It makes for easy gliding with the little ones.
There are about six groomed cross-country ski trails that are clearly labeled and very simple to navigate–always a plus when visiting a new area.
Winter isn’t over yet, so get out on the trails with your friends and family while there is still time!
