Shape the Future
The High Peaks Alliance is calling on local leaders to participate in a meeting that will shape the future of Maine’s High Peaks region. Set for February 27, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Carrabassett Valley Public Library, this gathering is an opportunity for municipalities to contribute to a regional strategic action plan led by the High Peaks Initiative (HPI).
Brent West, Executive Director of the Alliance, emphasizes the importance of local involvement, “This meeting is not just about planning; it’s about creating a shared vision for our region. We need the voices of our town managers, committee members, and local officials to ensure that our strategic plan reflects the needs and aspirations of our communities.”
These meetings are part of a larger initiative funded by the Community Recreation Assistance Recovery (CORA) grant from the Maine Office of Outdoor Recreation. HPI is collaborating with the Northern Forest Center to facilitate discussions and gather insights that will inform the strategic action plan. This partnership aims to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities while addressing critical conservation needs in the region.

Building Momentum
The Alliance has been building momentum through a series of collaborative events. In December 2024, a successful Motorized Meet Up in Strong brought together snowmobile and ATV clubs, state senators, and representatives from Maine’s ORV program. This gathering addressed critical issues such as landowner relations and trail management efficiency.
Building on this progress, HPI members convened in January 2025 to refine their priorities in the region.Â
The upcoming meeting will further this work, focusing on:
- Aligning current and future projects with town priorities
- Assessing project progress and overcoming barriers
- Integrating community feedback
- Exploring funding opportunities for development
