Wildlife Watch
August 20, 2024 – Been seeing a few bats in the evenings. Not yesterday but the day before I had a Barred owl on the barn roof. Somebody said they saw a Bald eagle out on the Saddleback Spur. I’ve seen Broad-shoulder hawk but other than that I ain’t seen much of anything!
The Viceroy, the White Admiral, and the Red Admiral butterflies are out. The Viceroy is the imitation monarch, it looks like a Monarch but is the size of an Admiral. I’ve seen quite a few dragonflies.
There’s a fly, that’s blue and fuzzy that’s started coming out. Usually, a whole mess of them comes out this time of year. They look like blue fuzz flying around. They like the alders.
There’s a Robin’s nest on the tree closest to the Point Trail. The apple tree that’s on the Sheep Trail, there’s a nest in that one too. My sister saw a Canada Goose flying overhead, so I think they’ll be here waiting for about a week for others before heading out.
Lots of foxes and coyotes out there eating blueberries and leaving scat AND the blackberries are ripe!
