Bald Mountain’s Next Run
High Peaks Alliance, in partnership with the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands and Granite Backcountry Alliance, is developing human-powered ski glades that honor the mountain’s history while expanding outdoor recreation.
Volunteers are needed to become certified sawyers and help with glade construction and maintenance. Granite Backcountry Alliance is offering two certification weekends:
- August 22–23
- August 29–30
Trainings will take place in Jackson, New Hampshire, and cover safety, technique, and responsible forest management. Sawyer certification is required for anyone who wants to safely operate a chainsaw and participate in glade construction and maintenance work on the Bald Mountain glade.
“This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable skills and help create a lasting community resource,” said Matt Kusper, Lead Recreation Ranger.
