Wildlife Watch
January 7, 2025 – I’ve got two Canada jays here that showed up today. They are feeding on the suet, the seeds in the yard, and arguing with the Blue Jays. Otherwise, it’s the basic birds.
We’ve got turkeys; 8 of them that have been visiting. They are at the feeders, just beelining it from one feeder to the other, and back and forth. The maple tree has 18-21 doves sitting in it. The lilac bush has 23-24 blue jays. I’ve got a flock of about 30 evening grosbeaks. There are chickadees, juncos, and nuthatches hanging around, too. I had two males and one female crossbill a few days ago. There’s a Downy woodpecker on the suet now.
The only four-legged creature I have is the red squirrel. There are 5-6 of them feeding under the feeders.
Had a couple of snowshoers yesterday. One said there were a lot of snowshoe hare tracks, but that was it.
