Farmington is at a crossroads
Dear Farmington Voters,
Farmington is at a crossroads: do we shrink into ourselves, as so many towns in rural Maine have, or do we lean into our strengths and invest in a better tomorrow?
On May 11 at 7 p.m., we can help shape the town’s future by supporting the Sandy River Bridge warrant article.
This project has been part of Farmington’s long-term planning for decades, including the downtown development plan, TIF plan, and comprehensive plan. A lot of progress has already been made: the bridge has an updated design and cost estimate, and we’ve already secured $2.3 million in federal funding. Now we just need to close the final local gap with a $500,000 warrant article so the project can move forward into construction.
A 2026 economic analysis by Wallace Economic Advisors shows the project will bring real benefits to our community. But this is about more than numbers. It is about restoring a visible, practical connection between West Farmington, downtown, and one of western Maine’s most loved trails. This bridge will make Farmington a true destination — allowing people to travel by bike, on foot, or on snowmobiles straight into the heart of town to eat, shop, and explore.
We can’t do this without you. Your vote truly matters. Please join us at the Town Meeting on May 11 at 7 p.m. and vote YES to support the Sandy River Bridge.
Together, we have come a long way. Let’s not lose this opportunity when we are so close to the finish line.
